PLÁTANO DOMINICO HARTÓN PROJECT 2022
About the project
The PLÁTANO DOMINICO HARTÓN PROJECT 2022 represents a landmark initiative in the agricultural research landscape of Colombia, aiming to enhance the cultivation practices and output of Hartón plantain across the nation. This comprehensive study was conducted over two stages spanning from 2017 to 2021, culminating in a focused effort throughout 2022 and 2023. The project was spearheaded by the National Federation of Banana Producers of Colombia in collaboration with key academic and research institutions, including the Colombian Research Corporation - AGROSAVIA, UNAD University, and the Colombian Horticultural Development Fund.
The first stage of the research focused on nursery conditions, setting the foundation for healthy plant development, while the second stage extended into the first productive cycle in the actual field settings. Each phase meticulously measured critical variables that hold national importance, such as plant health and productive performance, ensuring a thorough understanding of the factors that contribute to successful plantain cultivation.
Carried out in six different producing regions across Colombia, this study provided a broad and representative sample of the country’s agricultural diversity. By doing so, it aimed to generalize findings and optimize cultivation techniques that could be adapted to various local environments, thus potentially boosting the national output of the Hartón plantain. This research not only underscores the commitment of Colombian agricultural bodies to sustainable and prosperous farming practices but also sets a precedent for future agronomic studies in the region.
